About

About Active Scene

Dance has a way of changing lives. It introduces you to people you'd never otherwise meet, gives shape to your week, lifts the heavy days, improves your physical and mental wellbeing. We built Active Scene because we believe more people deserve that, and because finding your way into the scene is far harder than it should be.

The mission

Our mission is simple: get more people dancing, more often, together, across geographies.

Across the UK and around the world, hundreds of thousands of people already dance socially — salsa, bachata, kizomba, urban kiz, tango, zouk and more. There are evening classes in church halls, festivals filling hotel ballrooms, beginner-friendly socials in basement bars. None of it is hidden, exactly — but it's scattered across a hundred Instagram accounts, fifty WhatsApp groups, and websites that haven't been updated for years. If you're already in the scene, you piece it together. If you're not, you stay out.

Active Scene exists to make that scene findable — to anyone, on any phone, in any language an AI assistant speaks. We bring together what's already out there: organisers' websites, Instagram posts, festival pages. We turn them into something searchable. Something you can subscribe to in your calendar. Something Google, ChatGPT, Claude and Siri can answer questions from.

We do this because dance is one of the best things humans do. It builds the kind of in-person community that's getting rarer. It improves wellbeing in ways no app can. It crosses geography and language. And it's worth growing.

What we believe

A few things, plainly:

  • Dance changes lives. We've seen it. It's why we work on this.
  • The scene already exists. Our job is to help it grow and connect, not to replace it. Every event on this site links straight back to its organiser.
  • Free, for dancers and organisers alike. No paywalls in front of finding your next class.
  • Welcoming and safe. We list organisers who run respectful, inclusive events. Our standards aren't bureaucratic — that's what keeps the directory worth using.

For dancers

If you dance — or you've been meaning to start — Active Scene is for you. Browse by city, style or day. Subscribe to your favourite organisers' events directly in your phone calendar — once, then forever. Follow the organisers whose classes you love. Find a festival in a city you've always wanted to visit. Create a free account and save events with a heart; we'll remember them for you and, if you want, email a weekly digest of what's on.

For organisers

If you run dance events — classes, socials, festivals, retreats — Active Scene is built to send you more dancers. We make your events discoverable on Google, in calendar apps, and increasingly through AI assistants. Once you claim your page, dancers can subscribe to your events in their phone calendar with one tap — and your events appear in their calendars automatically as you publish them. Your portal includes a share kit (a Linktree-ready link, QR code and branded share image) designed for adding Active Scene to your Instagram bio in 60 seconds. You don't need a website to be listed; we are your website. Claim your page (you may already have one), publish your own events, stay in full control. Free to claim and list.

For teachers

If you teach dance — private lessons, couples, or the all-important wedding first dance — Active Scene helps the right students find you. List yourself free with your own profile: the styles you teach, your area, your rates. Dancers near you discover you and get in touch directly — no commission, no booking fees, and you stay in full control of your profile, which is always yours. Already run classes or socials? They show up on your profile automatically, so your teaching and your events sit side by side.

Connecting communities

Active Scene is global by design. We cover scenes across the UK, Europe, the United States, the Middle East and Asia — and we're growing. The vision isn't just to make each local scene more discoverable, but to connect them. A dancer in Manchester finds the right festival in Lisbon. An organiser in Bristol partners with one in Berlin. The scene becomes one scene.

A larger purpose

Active Scene is independent and mission-driven. We measure success by the same thing organisers and dancers do: are more people dancing, in more places, more often? When the answer is yes, the platform's job is being done.

If that mission resonates — whether you teach bachata in Bristol, run a kizomba festival in Lisbon, or you've never danced a step in your life but have always meant to — welcome. Glad you're here.
