About heels in London
London is the deepest social-dance scene in the UK by some distance — salsa and bachata socials run every night of the week, kizomba and urban-kiz have their own dedicated nights, and a milonga is happening within the M25 most evenings. Soho, Camden and Bermondsey are the busiest hubs, but pockets of regular dancing run across nearly every zone of the Tube map. The city draws a constant churn of teachers and visiting dancers, so the standard at the busier socials is high — though there are also plenty of beginner-friendly weekly classes that lead straight into open dancing. London also hosts several of the UK's biggest festivals each year, which pull in dancers from across Europe, so even off-season weekends usually have a workshop or party to drop into.
Where to start: pick a weeknight class-plus-social near a Tube line you know — one beginner lesson, then open dancing — and try salsa or bachata first; no partner or experience needed.
Is there really something on every night? Yes. Even Sundays and Mondays have options across central London, and weekends usually offer a choice of bigger socials.
Which area should I head to? Soho and Camden have the broadest weeknight lineup for salsa and bachata; venues further out tend to run later and harder. The listings above are sorted by what's on this week.
Do I need a partner? No. Social dance rotates partners by default — coming alone is the norm and the friendliest way to learn.
